Jonathan Marzluf

Biography

My Name is Jonathan Marzluf, and I am a working freelance oboist, oboe instructor, and repairman in the Orange County, California, area. I am a member of the applied music faculties of Concordia University and California State University, Fullerton.

I began playing the oboe in 1980, at the age of ten (and began making reeds, incidentally, the following year). I earned my B.M. in oboe performance at The Ohio State University, and my M.M. in oboe performance at California State University, Fullerton. My major teachers have included: Robert Sorton, William Baker, Steven Rosenberg, and Larry Timm. I have also had the occasional lesson and/or masterclass with: John Mack, James Caldwell, David Weiss, and Alan Vogal.

I have played oboe for many ensembles, including: the CAPA Broadway Series, the Roanoke Opera, the Columbus Symphony, the United States Marine Corps Field Band and Woodwind Quintet, the Central Ohio Symphony, the Pacific Woodwind Quintet, the Rio Hondo Symphony, Center Stage Opera in L.A., and the Okinawa Symphony in Japan.

I am also a "family man," having been married to my lovely wife, Jennifer, since 1996. We have two beautiful children: Lydia and Benjamin.
