Robyn Frey-Monell
Biography
Soprano Robyn Frey-Monell’s versatile vocal style has enabled her to
perform successfully in several classical mediums throughout Southern
California. She has been a featured soloist on the concert and oratorio
stage, as well as performed a vast amount of symphonic choral and opera
chorus repertoire. Ms. Frey-Monell has performed under the batons of such
conductors as Claudio Abbado, Leonard Bernstein, John Mauceri, Zubin
Mehta, Riccardo Muti, Simon Rattle, Mstilav Rostropovich, Esa-Pekka
Salonen, and Hugh Wolf. She has participated in recordings with the New
York Philharmonic, the Philadelphia Orchestra and the Los Angeles
Philharmonic, and has performed in Festivals throughout the United States
and Italy, including the Spoleto Festival and Festival dei due mondi.
Ms. Frey-Monell has been a featured soloist with the Carmel Bach Festival,
the Long Beach Chorale, the Long Beach Mozart Festival, the Irvine
Camerata, and the Orlando Chorale, and performs locally with Opera
Pacific, the Los Angeles Master Chorale, and California Heights United
Methodist Church She is a member of the American Guild of Musical
Artists and the College Music Society, and serves on the Executive Board of
the Los Angeles Chapter of the National Association of Teachers of Singing.
As an adjudicator, Ms. Frey-Monell has judged the regional hearings for
Classical Singer Magazine's National College Competition and the Utah
State Fair Vocal Competition. Locally, she has been an active adjudicator for
the Long Beach Mozart Festival, Manhattan Beach School District, Music
Teachers Association of California, NATS-Los Angeles Chapter, and
Southern California Vocal Association.
A native of New York State, Ms. Frey-Monell holds a Bachelor of Music
degree in Education with a Vocal emphasis from Westminster Choir College
and a Master of Fine Arts degree in Vocal Performance from the University
of California, Irvine. She has served on the faculties of Long Beach
Polytechnic High School, Los Angeles City College, Long Beach City
College, Orange Coast College, and Columbia University Teachers College.
In addition to running a successful private vocal studio in Long Beach, CA,
Ms. Frey-Monell currently serves on the voice faculties of Fullerton College
and Concordia University Irvine. She is currently pursuing a doctoral degree
at Columbia University’s Teachers College.
