JOHANN SEBASTIAN BACH
ST. MATTHEW PASSION
Concordia Master Chorale
The Concordia Choir
Dr. Michael Busch, conductor
Johann Sebastian Bach wrote his St. Matthew Passion in 1727 for the Good Friday services at the famed Thomaskirche in Leipzig, continuing to revise and reshape the work throughout the course of his life.
Calling for two choirs and two orchestras, this masterwork is arguably Bach’s most monumental musical achievement. Christ’s passion and death are recounted from the Gospel of Matthew in this gripping portrayal of devotion, betrayal, and sacrifice.
Concordia presents this sacred masterpiece during the weekend of Palm Sunday, aptly known as the Sunday of the Passion.
A performance of Bach’s St. Matthew Passion is always a special event. The price of the ticket includes a catered hors d’oeuvres reception, served during intermission.
Performed in German with English subtitles
