Greetings from the Cross-cultural Ministry Center (CMC) at Concordia University, Irvine
This Center specializes in training pastors and church leaders for urban, multi-cultural ministry. It is a partnership of Concordia Seminary, St. Louis and Concordia University, Irvine. As the Director of the Center and this special M.Div.-level program, I’m proud of its synthesis of quality academics and challenging in-the-field mission planting practice. This specialized training seeks to take on the task of training leaders who can deal with the realities of the metropolitan communities of 21st century America.
The four year curriculum includes a Masters Degree in Theology and Culture (31 credits), seminary certification courses (45 credits), and a four year multi-cultural, church planting vicarage experience (24 credits) leading to certification and ordination in the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod. Graduates will be trained especially to serve ethnic specific or ethnically diverse congregations in the United States.
While classes are “delivered” on the campus of Concordia Irvine, they are held in such a way as to benefit the non-traditional student. (Most of our students either have full-time jobs or are working in some capacity, some even in churches in the area.) All classes are presently held on Monday and Thursday evenings and our Fall and Spring semester classes are also delivered in a real-time online format meaning that students living outside of Southern California are able to complete their training without moving away from the church and community where they work.
What is most needed from the potential candidate (that’s you) are those qualities, skills and desires which would enable one to persevere in outreach across racial, cultural and linguistic lines in order to establish Christ’s church in new communities and neighborhoods in the U.S.A. If your desire is to bring our church and its biblically solid message of “Grace alone through faith in Christ alone” to places where it presently is not heard, then this is the program for you!
If you have any questions or need more information, please email my associate, Mr. Mark Siegert at firstname.lastname@example.org or myself, email@example.com, and we’ll be glad to help you in any way.
