Concordia University Irvine Celebrates the 9th Cohort Graduation from the ABSN Program
Irvine, Calif. (August 13, 2013)—Concordia University Irvine’s nursing department celebrated its graduation and pinning ceremony on August 10, 2013. Dr. Peter Senkbeil, Concordia's assistant provost, gave the graduation address.
The August graduating Accelerated Bachelor of Science in Nursing (ASBN) cohort was the 9th graduating from Concordia University Irvine. Thirty-eight members of the 9th ASBN cohort celebrated along with six RN to BSN completion students. Two RN to BSN students walked in May, but were "pinned" at the ceremony on August 10th.
"Members of the August nursing graduating class dedicated themselves to a year of hard work and perseverance in the ABSN program,” Dr. Mary Hobus, Director of Nursing, explained. “Many of them have demonstrated the principles of wise, honorable, cultivated citizens in their clinical practice in Orange County and Los Angeles County. They have chosen to dedicate themselves to the care of others. As director, I believe many of these future nurses will continue CUI's mission throughout their nursing practice. It has been and will always be a privilege to serve these nursing students who will change the future of nursing care among God's people.”
The path to becoming a nurse takes long hours of studying, homework and many 12-hour clinical days, culminating with a 3-hour nursing state board exam. The pinning ceremony is a rite of passage that signifies that the nursing graduate is now welcomed into the world of professional nursing. In order to be pinned, students must pass the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX). Current NCLEX average pass rate for the CUI nursing program is 97.96%. Cohorts 6 and 7 graduates had 100% NCLEX pass rate for members of their respective cohort. Graduates have been hired at CHLA, CHOC, St. Joseph's Hospital, St. Jude Hospital, Cedars Sinai, Saddleback Memorial Hospital Laguna Hills, Mission Hospital Mission Viejo, Hoag Hospital Whittier Presbyterian and UCI hospital, as well as hospitals outside of CA.
About The Concordia University Irvine Accelerated Bachelor of Science (ABSN) in Nursing Program
The Accelerated BSN program addresses the need for those desiring to change their professional career to becoming a Registered Nurse. The program is designed for graduates who already have a baccalaureate degree in any specialty from an accredited college or university. Students in this nursing program are granted all units successfully completed in their first degree, but must complete or transfer credits to meet the prerequisites prior to beginning the nursing program. It is possible to receive a BSN at the end of three semesters.
