New Book Published by Concordia University Professor Expands Horizons for Orange County MBA Students

Christopher Nagel Shares His Experiences Around the Globe in Global Market Entry, Rules of Engagement.

IRVINE, CA (May 14, 2013) -- College professors often write textbooks, but Christopher Nagel’s new book, Global Market Entry, Rules of Engagement, bridges the gap between academia and the corporate world. It has recently been added as a course supplement for students enrolled in the MBA program at Concordia University Irvine, and professionals already working in business use it.

In fact, it’s required reading for some at Pfizer, Inc.

Dieter Weinand, chief marketing officer at Pfizer explains, “In a global organization with over 100,000 employees, talent development is a key aspect of continued success. As such, we routinely develop individuals of high potential to grow beyond their own borders to develop them into global leaders – and I have them read the text as an introduction to global business. Without a doubt, they all find it interesting and useful.”

Professor Nagel was born in London and grew up having people from around the world in and out of his home in Cambridge, England, which, he says, has made him very comfortable with various cultures. Born of Australian and American parents, he has worked and traveled throughout the world to over 60 countries, and he has negotiated with governments at the ministerial level. Nagel is a graduate of Valparaiso University in Indiana and the Thunderbird School in Arizona.

What sets this book apart from many other business books is that all of the examples are drawn directly from Nagel’s experiences. His corporate experience includes the positions of Marketing Manager-Asia for International Paper Co. and Vice President-Commercial Development for Servrite International.

“All of the case studies are immediate to my life,” says Nagel. “I personally know all of the players in the case studies.”

Thus, without leaving Orange County, MBA students at Concordia can get an insider’s look at the challenges KFC faced when they entered China, the specific considerations that Tropicana dealt with when they entered Japan, and a realistic explanation of foreign direct investment via the case study on the International Paper Company in Asia.
