IRVINE, Calif. (September 10, 2015)U.S. News & World Report's ranked Concordia University Irvine (CUI) number 55 among the 2016 Top Tier Regional Universities. Regional universities, according to U.S. News & World Report, are institutions that provide a full range of undergraduate majors and master's programs, and some doctoral programs. Since 1983, U.S. News college rankings have grouped schools based on categories created by the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching, a category system used by higher education researchers and the U.S. Department of Education.

The 618 accredited universities in this category are ranked in four regions—North, South, Midwest, and West—because they tend to draw students most heavily from surrounding states.

"The timing of this distinction couldn't be better," said Concordia University President Kurt Krueger. "As we begin our 40th academic year, this ranking confirms the good work of our faculty, staff and students."

Among the factors weighed in determining rankings, the key measures of quality are peer assessment, graduation and retention rates, faculty resources, student selectivity, financial resources, and alumni giving.

Concordia University Irvine is one of the seven universities in the Concordia University System (CUS) named to the 2016 "Best Colleges" issue of U.S. News & World Report. CUS is part of the Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod system of 10 colleges and universities throughout the United States.
