Eagles Seeded Third at National Tournament
Tournament Schedule
(11/26/07 - Women's Volleyball) IRVINE - After holding the #3 ranking in the NAIA Coaches Poll most of the season, Concordia will remain in that same position as the Eagles were handed the third seed into Pool C for this week's 28th Annual NAIA Women's Volleyball National Championship, Nov. 28-Dec. 1 at Columbia College in Columbia, Mo.
Concordia (26-5) will open up tournament play bright and early on Wednesday, November 28 against Olivet Nazarene (Ill.) at 9:00 a.m. (CST). The match will be played at nearby Stephens College, site of the third court during pool play. The two teams met last season during pool play with the Eagles earning a 3-1 win over the TIgers. Olivet Nazarene, located in Kankakee, Illl., won the Region VII Tournament.
Later that day, the Eagles play their second round robin contest against Madonna (Mich.), this time taking to the Arena Court in the Southwell Complex at Columbia College starting at 3:45 p.m. The Eagles will then have nearly a full 24 hours to prepare for their final preliminary round match, a matchup with #8-seeded Mt. Vernon Nazarene (Ohio) on Thursday, November 29 at 6:00 p.m. Those matches will be the first-ever between the teams. Madonna was the winner of the Region VIII Tournament while Mt. Vernon Nazarene captured Region IX.
Starting with quarterfinal round matches on Friday afternoon, the remainder of the tournament will be played on the Arena Court and can be viewed on a pay-per-view basis. Should the Eagles win their pool, they would take on the second place finisher in Pool E, a group that includes defending national champion National American (S.D.) and #6-seeded Lindenwood (Mo.). That match is the late contest on Friday starting at 8:30 p.m.
However, a second place finish in Pool C would force the Eagles into an early contest against the runner-up from Pool B on Friday morning at 10:30 a.m. Pool B is headed up by GSAC-rival California Baptist, but also includes Lewis-Clark State (Ida.) and newcomer Texas-Brownsville.
The pair of semifinal matches will be played on Saturday with matches set for 9:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. The championship match is set to begin at 7:30 p.m.
The pay-per-view video webcasts will be available starting with the first quarterfinal round contest on Friday afternoon at 1:00 p.m. Fans can order matches on a individual basis or choose to order a championship round package that would include each of the final 7 contests. Prices will be available later on in the week. Click here to get to the log-in page for the webcasts.
