Consistent Marks Fuel Eagles

(2/16/08 - Women's Track and Field) AZUSA - The Concordia women's indoor track and field team turned in another consistent weekend of marks at the Azusa Pacific Last Chance Qualifier, Friday and Saturday inside Cougar Stadium.

Jessica Gibbs had one of the most impressive performances of weekend as she knocked nearly one-half second off her 200m time from one week ago, crossing the line in 26.04. Despite not competing for nearly two years, Gibbs continues to inch closer to the automatic qualifying mark of 25.38.

Gibbs was also turning heads with her time in the 60 meters. For the first time this season, she was able to edge teammate Marie Gardner by .01 seconds as she hit the line in 8.05. Emma Valencia also competed in the race for the Eagles and finished in 8.42.

Stretching the 400, the Eagles had a pair of runners perform well in the grueling event. Linsie Michels improved upon her provisional standard mark by finishing in 59.62. Aubree Caruana also ran a personal best with a time of 1:01.32 while Zahira Montanez finished in 1:03.87.

Another season best was achieved by Mandie Sauve, as she posted a time of 5:40.15. Sandra Prado led a trio of Eagles in the race at 5:23.00 while Amy Lund also finished with a time of 5:56.97.

The Eagles also sent four team members out to compete in the field events with Michelle Franks bringing home the headlines. She broke her own school record in the triple jump by leaping 36'4" and missed her own long jump record by just 0.5 inches with a mark of 16'5". Valencia also did well in the long jump with a mark of 15'10.25".

The high jump once again saw Kelsey Wood stay consistent with a clearing mark of 5'1". Rounding out the field competitors was Gardner, the two-way standout who lofted the shot put 39'5.25" to finish second overall.

Concordia is back home this Friday, February 22 for a Last Chance Qualifier in Eagle Stadium before heading up to Claremont the following day to compete in the Carl Rossi Relays.
