Doubles Sweep Sends Eagles Past Lancers, 6-3
Results (4/2/07 - Women's Tennis) IRVINE - The NAIA's #24-ranked Concordia swept all three doubles points to move up in the GSAC standings with a 6-3 win over visiting California Baptist, Monday afternoon at the Lower Peters Canyon Courts. The Eagles saw each point come with the margin of victory cut down each time. The number three team of Emily Paulson and Julie Haley set the tone for the Eagles, posting a perfect 8-0 score over Kendra Faulkner and Mallory Bailey. The #2 team of Meghan Ehlers and Amanda Varela jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead and traded points late to take down Isabela Rodrigues and Nawchali DeSilva, 8-4. The final point, however, needed extra games as Michelle Esquivel and Jessica Rice posted a 9-7 victory over Marcel Montanha and Dunya Wren. Needing just two points from the six singles matches, the Eagles managed a split of the individual contests to earn their 12th win of the season. Both Ehlers and Paulson at #5 and #6, respectively, posted 6-1, 6-1 wins while Esquivel was a 6-1, 6-4 winner in the second spot. The victory pushed the Eagles to within just one game of 3rd place Azusa Pacific with one match remaining. Concordia (12-8, 5-3) finishes up GSAC play on Saturday, April 14 with a visit to #5-ranked Vanguard at 12:00 p.m. Prior to that, the Eagles take on La Sierra three days prior at 4:00 p.m.
