Sea Lions Clip Eagles, 5-4

(2/25/08 - Women's Tennis) IRVINE - Despite taking 4-of-6 points at singles, host Concordia was unable to clinch a fifth point in doubles and dropped a tight 5-4 decision to #12-ranked Point Loma Nazarene, Monday afternoon in Golden State Athletic Conference play.

The Eagles were looking for their first win over the Sea Lions (4-3, 2-1 GSAC) since the program was reinstituted three seasons ago, but found the match-clinching point to be elusive.

All six singles matches were claimed in straight sets as the Eagles jumped to a 4-2 lead. Kelly Griffith had the most convincing win of the foursome at #6 singles, winning 6-2, 6-2 over Brooke Foster.

While all three matches in doubles were hotly-contested, the Eagles saw their best chance at a fifth point just evade their grasp at #2 doubles. Jaleh Mazaheri and Jessica Rice came up just short in a 9-8 decision to Leanne Piper and Brittany Hall.

Concordia (4-2, 2-1 GSAC) is back in action this Saturday, March 1 for a conference match up against #6-ranked Azusa Pacific at Citrus College in Glendora starting at 10:00 a.m.
