Concordia, Chapman Split Doubleheader
Game One Game Two
(3/1/08 - Softball) IRVINE - The NAIA's #25-ranked Concordia rallied for six runs in the 5th inning of game one to post a 6-3 win while Chapman piled on four late runs in the 6th inning of game two to claim the nightcap, 5-0, Saturday afternoon in non-conference softball action.
Concordia (18-5) sent 11 players to the plate in the 5th inning after entering the frame down 2-0. SheaLynn Slover had given Chapman (6-4) the lead with a two-run home run to center in the 4th inning. Alicia Leto led off the inning with a single and came back around two add another hit in the frame as the Eagles posted six hits in all.
Jennifer Winford (5-1) stifled Concordia in game two, scattering six hits over seven innings while walking two and striking out two. She worked out of a one-out, bases loaded jam in the 5th inning by inducing a pair of harmless infield pop-ups to keep the Eagles off the board. Amanda Campbell gave the Panthers the lead with a solo home run in the 6th inning before the Concordia defense committed a pair of errors to help four Chapman hits in the 7th.
Laura Wiens (5-1) picked up the win in the opener, allowing three runs on six hits while striking out three. Kory Briggs picked up her first save of the season, allowing just one hit while fanning a pair over the final two innings. Ashley Alvarez led the way for the Eagles on offense, combining to go 5-for-8 with a double.
Concordia opens up Golden State Athletic Conference play this Tuesday, March 4 with a trip to #10-ranked Vanguard with game one of the doubleheader slated for 1:30 p.m.
