Concordia Claims Sixth at GSAC Championships

(10/20/07 - Women's Cross Country) COSTA MESA - Alma Escobar led Concordia University’s women’s cross country team to a 6th place finish in the Golden State Athletic Conference Championships, Saturday afternoon at Fairview Park.
Escobar took 11th place overall, completing the 5k race in 18:46. The Eagles claimed sixth place, being edged out of fifth place by one point at the hands of Fresno Pacific, 108-109.
Danielle Varela had a strong showing for Concordia as well. Varela trailed Escobar by just 13 seconds, taking 15th place in the meet in 18:59.
Yanely Estrada and Linsie Mechels stayed close, as Estrada (19:36) nabbed the 26th spot and Michels (19:38) came in 28th place. Concordia’s fifth scoring runner was Jennifer Bowles. Bowles, who finished the race in 19:47, closely trailed her teammates, laying claim to 32nd place. Amy Lund took 37th after posting a 20:07 race time.
Concordia’s non-scoring runners were led by Mandie Sauve. Sauve (21:01) was the 58th runner in. Trailing Sauve was Leah Hahn (71st) who put up a 22:07 mark, followed by Cassidy Roupe (23:01) who took 81st.
The Eagles will take next weekend off to prepare for the NAIA Region II Championships on Saturday, November 3rd at Woodward Park in Fresno.
