(10/1/07 - Women's Cross Country) SALEM, Ore. - Concordia grabbed hold of a fourth place finish this weekend in Salem, Oregon, as they competed in the Charles Bowles Invitational held by Willamette University. The Eagles tallied 202 points with an average time of 18:46 in the 5k run, falling just 27 points behind the only other GSAC school in the meet, Point Loma Nazarene.

"Our top four runners stayed close together and raced very well," said head coach Martin Gonzalez. "I'm very proud of how our spirit is getting as strong as ever."

Alma Escobar led the way for Concordia for the third time this season. Escobar posted an 18:12 time, good for 17th place. Closely behind Escobar were teammates Danielle Varela and Linsie Michels. Varela (22nd) ran in just 11 seconds after Escobar, finishing in 18:23. Michels (18:35) trailed Varela by only 12 seconds herself, notching a 28th place finish.

Jennifer Bowles was Concordia’s fourth runner in, taking 44th with an 18:54 run. Paige McFerran complete Concordia’s scoring runners by laying claim to the 101st spot in 19:47.

Amy Lund was the first of CUI’s displaced runners, taking 120th place to cross the line in 19:59. Leah Hahn was the other displaced runner for the Eagles as she finished the race in 20:32, taking 152nd place.

Mandie Sauve and Cassidy Roupe also ran for Concordia.  Sauve (175th) posted a 20:55 race time as Roupe (21:20) finished in the 197th spot.

The Eagles will use October 13th’s Alumni Run to prepare themselves for the upcoming GSAC Championships.  The conference meet will be held on October 20th in Costa Mesa at Fairview Park.
