(9/15/07 - Women's Cross Country) KENOSHA, Wisc. - The Concordia University women’s cross country team, currently ranked 10th in the NAIA’s National poll, took an 8th place finish this weekend in the University of Wisconsin-Parkside’s Midwest Invitational. Alma Escobar led the Eagles, claiming an 11th place finish in the 5k race, posting a run of 18:36.

Danielle Varela came in behind Escobar, taking the 25th spot in 19:03.  Jennifer Bowles (32nd) trailed her teammate by 15 seconds, completing the race in 19:18.

Taking the fourth spot for the Eagles, Linsie Michels ran in at 19:31, good for the 41st spot in the race.  Ana Mendoza was Concordia’s remaining runner to score, as she posted a time of 20:07 for a 75th place finish.

Concordia’s two displaced runners were Paige McFarren and Amy Lund.  The two placed closely, as McFarren (20:27) claimed 83rd followed by Lund (20:39), who took the 85th spot in the Invitational.

"Having the opportunity to visit the national course prior to the national championships is a privilege," said head coach Martin Gonzalez. "It was a tough travel schedule and the team adjusted as best as they could to the new environment. We are motivated to return in November when conditions will be much more difficult."

The Eagles will take next weekend off before traveling up to Salem, Oregon where CUI will participate in Willamette University’s Invitational on September 29th. Last season, that race proved to be very successful for the Lady Eagles as they claimed first place, combining with the men’s team for a sweep.
