(11/3/07 - Women's Cross Country) FRESNO - Sophomore Alma Escobar grabbed fifth place overall with a time of 18:11 to lead Concordia to a sixth place team finish at the 2007 NAIA Region II Championships, Saturday afternoon at Woodward Park.

Escobar was one of two Concordia sophomores to finish among the top 10 as Danielle Varela grabbed 10th place with a time of 18:24. Their two scores helped pave the way for a team total of 130. Azusa Pacific won the event on the team side with a score of 57 points.

Next across the line for the Eagles was the third of four-straight sophomores as Jennifer Bowles placed 33rd with a time of 19:24. Rounding out the quartet of second-year runners was Yanely Estrada, who crossed the line in 40th place with a time of 19:52.

Rounding out the five-member scoring contingent was senior Paige McFerran, who crossed the line in 20:04 to take 42nd position. Amy Lund was the only displaced runner for the Eagles, wrapping up her freshman season with a 45th place finish in 20:15.

Though the Eagles are on the bubble to earn an at-large berth to the 52nd Annual NAIA Cross Country Championships at the Dr. Wayne E. Dannehl Cross Country Course on Saturday, November 17, several of the team members could earn individual slots to compete in the race. The field for the race will be announced on Tuesday, November 6.
