(1/24/08 - Women's Basketball) SANTA BARBARA - Host Westmont held Concordia to a season-low for points scored as the Warriors posted a 73-46 win over the Eagles, Thursday evening in Golden State Athletic Conference play.
Less than 48 hours after a heart-breaking home loss to Hope International, the Eagles were on the road to play at one of the most difficult venues in the GSAC. For the second-straight season, the Eagles went to Murchison Gymnasium and found little to celebrate about on the long drive home.
The Eagles committed a season-high 26 turnovers and shot just 6-of-23 in the second half (26.1%). A 2-for-15 clip from three-point range coupled with the Warriors holding a 18-8 edge in made free throws to spell disaster for the Eagles.
A three-point deficit with 3:26 left in the first half looked plenty manageable for the Eagles, but the Warriors finished the half on a 11-2 run to take a 40-28 lead into the break.
Though the deficit stayed around 15 points for most of the second half, the Eagles were never able to crack double digits and truly threaten a comeback attempt. Though the Warriors shot under 42 percent for the game, they were able to double the field goals made by the Eagles and limited their turnovers to 14 for the contest.
Kayanna Nichols was the only Concordia player in double figures with 11 points while pulling down four rebounds. Freshman Cheyenne Wallace had eight rebounds and a pair of steals while Ivanna Warren came off the bench to add seven points.
Amber Stevens hit 8-of-12 shots from the floor to finish with a game-high 21 points for Westmont (12-4, 4-4 GSAC) while also dishing out 5 assists and recording four steals. Jessica Case tossed in 17 points while Alisha Heglund added 12 points in just 18 minutes.
Concordia (8-11, 2-7 GSAC) wraps up the first round of GSAC play next Tuesday, January 29 on the road as the Eagles visit California Baptist at 5:30 p.m.
