(3/6/08 - Men's Track and Field) JACKSON CITY, Tenn. - Behind the 2nd-place finish of all-American Paul Castaneda, the Concordia men's indoor track and field team captured 24th place at the 2008 NAIA Indoor Track and Field Championships.

As he did a year ago, Castaneda went toe-to-toe with Azusa Pacific's top thrower, James Ferguson. During the 2007 meet, Castaneda used his second attempt to set a school record with a mark of 58'5.75". This time around, however, Ferguson saved his best for his sixth and final toss and edged out Castaneda for the individual title.

Castaneda still managed a throw of 57'7.75", nearly a foot better than any of the other 30 competitors. Chad Smith and Shane Mervau each finished 6th in their respective heats. Smith delivered his best throw on his first attempt of the meet, tallying a mark of 53'2.75". Mervau fouled on his 1st and 3rd tosses, but did manage to land a solid throw of 52'3.75" on his second effort.

The outdoor season gets underway for the Eagles in three weeks time as they start things off on Saturday, March 29 at the Point Loma Nazarene Invitational in San Diego.
