(2/18/08 - Men's Track and Field) AZUSA - All-American Paul Castaneda continued to stretch his own school shot put record on his quest for a 2nd-straight NAIA championship as Concordia competed at the APU Last Chance Qualifier, Friday and Saturday inside Cougar Stadium.

Castaneda posted yet another record-breaking mark, this time heaving the shot put 58'8.75" to eclipse his previous mark by three inches. Teammate Shane Mervau continues his hard work and recorded another automatic qualifying throw of 51'6.5" to take third in the event.

On the track, newcomer Nathan Winkler continued to impress the coaching staff as he finished fourth in a very talented field. His time of 7.07 in the 60 was just .01 off his previous school-record mark set two weeks ago and keeps him battling for a qualifying time to the NAIA championships next month. Winkler also won his heat in the 200, posting a provisional mark of 22.28 that leaves him continuing to work toward the automatic mark of 21.65.

Michael Leonetti also had a busy day in the sprint events for the Eagles, recording a time of 23.21 in the 200 as he was joined by Rod West (23.54) and Ben Couloumbe (23.67). He also posted a time of 7.21 in the 60 with West crossing the line in 7.35. Leonetti finished his weekend by clocking a time of 9.04 in the 60m hurdles while Coulumbe posted a time of 52.68 in the 400m.

Among the distance runners competing for the Eagles, Jarid Rollins clocked a time of 2:04.63 in the 800m while Ryan Allen logged the 4th-fastest time of the day in the 1,600m after finishing in 4:37.47.

Concordia hosts one final Last Chance Qualifier this Friday, February 22, then will send a number of its team members to the Carl Rossi Relays the following day in Claremont.
