(2/21/07 - Men's Tennis) IRVINE - Senior Jared Haley put up a pair of zeros at #6 doubles as Concordia posted a 9-0 shutout over visiting Occidental, Wednesday afternoon in non-conference play.

The best match of the afternoon came during the opening session of doubles on the #1 court. Daniel Ndlela and Chris Nguyen were pushed to the limit by a pair of southpaws in Roz Hodges and Vince Karlen. Early on, the Eagles relied on the thundering serve of Ndlela and battled out of an early break to get the match back on serve.

After Ndlela held for the final time to make it 7-6, he and Nguyen dialed up the pressure and were able to put the match away. As match point came about, Nguyen was able to hit a volley down the right sideline that Hodges put into the net to end the match.

Meanwhile, the rest of the Eagles had little trouble in earning all three doubles points. Tim Kpulun and Bryan Newell did not drop a game at #3 doubles while Cesar Villares and Augusto Elias disposed of their opponents, 8-3.

Ndlela and Nguyen carried the momentum from their doubles wins to the #2 and #4 singles spots, respectively, and combined to lose just six games. Elias was a 6-3, 6-0 winner at #3 singles while Newell wrapped up the sweep with a 6-1, 6-3 victory in the five spot.

Concordia (6-3) hopes to continue its hot start to the season with another non-conference match, weather permitting, at UC San Diego on Thursday, February 22 at 2:00 p.m.
