Eagles Stay Consistent in Final Round
Leaderboard
(5/24/07 - Men's Golf) PLYMOUTH, Ind. - Despite shooting three very consistent team scores, first-time participant Concordia was not able to find the low score to propel them above the cut line on the final two days and will finish its three-day run at the 56th Annual NAIA Men's Golf National Championships in 21st position.
The Eagles opened the tournament with a four-man total of 304, but were unable to go any lower than that the rest of the week as the conditions became more difficult and the team met the fate of many on the course who struggled on the back nine. The Eagles tallied a 308 on Wednesday, then finished up their three-day stay with a team total of 305 on Thursday.
Junior Gregg Banks II was one of the few players in the entire field who was able to conquer the final nine holes on the Championship Course, finishing the three days at 6-under for those 27 holes. Banks fired a team-low score 4-over 220 for the tournament, putting him among the top 15 individuals with a strong chance to make the cut that will take place at the end of the day. Sam Cyr of Point Loma Nazarene is currently the individual leader at 5-under.
The rest of the Eagles all had their struggles over the final nine holes of the golf course, a stretch that has taken many respectable scores and added several strokes to the totals before the round came to a conclusion. The Eagles registered 15 single-hole scores of at least double-bogey on the back nine while managing just five birdies.
Ryan Kelley led the Eagles on the final day for the entire team, bouncing back after a 83 on Wednesday to shoot 2-over 74 on the round and +14 for the tournament. Joe Cruz also showed determination and perseverance after posting 80 on Wednesday to card a 3-over 75 in his final round to complete his first national tournament at +20.
Chris Platt and Chris Moores each shot +9 rounds on Thursday, finishing the tournament at +21 and +23, respectively.
