Senior Sends Eagles to Third at Regionals

(11/3/07 - Men's Cross Country) FRESNO - Senior Jorge Jabaz placed fifth overall to lead Concordia to a third place team finish at the 2007 NAIA Region II Championships, Saturday afternoon at Woodward Park.
Jabaz was one of three Eagles to finish in the top 10 with a time of 25:16 as the team finished with 93 points, two points behind runner-up Azusa Pacific. Independent regional member Cal State San Marcos captured the team title with 65 points.
Alaeeddine Khannouchi was just three seconds behind Jabaz to take the second scoring spot for the Eagles. Rounding out the trio among the top 10 was Tony Pulido, who crossed the line in 25:29 to capture 9th place.
Axel Ambriz and Guillermo Cazares gave the Eagles their second back-to-back finishers in the race. Ambriz was 36th with a time of 26:39 while Cazares was just two seconds off that pace. A third duo of Eagles captured the two displaced positions as Joseph Lopez finished 51st (27:55) and Raymundo Vazquez finished 52nd (27:56).
Concordia must now wait to see how it finishes in the final NAIA Coaches Poll, released in the afternoon on Monday, November 5. The at-large team berths and individual qualifier lists will be announced on Tuesday for the 52nd Annual NAIA Cross Country Championships, held on Saturday, November 17 on the Dr. Wayne E. Dannehl Cross Country Course in Kenosha, Wisc.
