Title Trio Named to All-GSAC Team
All-GSAC Team
(3/5/08 - Men's Basketball) IRVINE - Seniors Ryan Read and Rafael Da Silva were joined by sophomore Terrence Worthy to make up the three-man contingent of Eagles selected to the All-Golden State Athletic Conference team, chosen earlier this week by the conference coaches.
Read, the team's leading scorer at 16.1 points per game, makes his second appearance on the all-conference team after being selected two seasons ago following his junior season at The Master's College. Including his three seasons at The Master's, Read has 1,888 points for his career, giving him an excellent chance at eclipsing the 2,000-point mark for his career. Read was also chosen the GSAC Player of the Week on January 21 after averaging 21.5 points in wins over then-#9 ranked Point Loma Nazarene and Biola.
Da Silva and Worthy are both first-time honorees in their second seasons with the Eagles. Da Silva finished second on the team at 13.5 points per game while connecting on 73.3 percent of his free throws. He connected on 32 three-pointers during the campaign and averaged 3.3 rebounds and just under two assists.
Worthy raised his average to 10.0 points per contest thanks to an 11.0 clip during GSAC play. He also led the team with 91 steals, six off his school record set last season, while also dishing out 95 assists against just 44 turnovers. His rise in scoring can be directly attributed to his improved three-point shooting, which climbed to .455 (46-of-101) and .473 during GSAC play.
Mark Roussin of California Baptist was chosen the GSAC Player of the Year while Azusa Pacific head coach Justin Leslie was selected the GSAC Coach of the Year.
Not since the 2003-04 season have the Eagles seen at least three team members named to the all-conference squad. Four seasons ago, current assistant coaches Chris Victor and Jeremy Groth were joined by Tanner Luster and GSAC Player of the Year Nick VanderLaan.
Concordia (25-4) begins the postseason this Thursday, March 6 as the #1 seed in the GSAC Tournament. The Eagles host 8th-seeded Biola in CU Arena at 7:30 p.m.
