Golden Eagles Get Revenge, 11-3

(3/25/08 - Baseball) LOS ANGELES - Host Cal State Los Angeles scored six times in the first two innings to get revenge for a loss one week ago against Concordia, 11-3, Tuesday evening in non-conference play at Reeder Field.

Cal State Los Angeles (14-16) pounded out 14 hits to get revenge for a 17-8 loss in 10 innings last week on the same field. In that game, Concordia scored nine times in the 10th inning to snap a 8-8 deadlock.

Tyler Warmerdam and Kenny Shanahan each had four hits and combined for seven RBI and four runs scored for the Golden Eagles. Warmerdam slugged his 8th home run of the season with two outs in the 2nd inning while Shanahan had a trio of run-scoring hits through the first six innings.

Concordia tallied single runs through the middle of the game, but got no closer than a four-run deficit after the top half of the 6th inning. Anthony Espitia drove in the first run with a single through the left side in the 5th inning after Dante Beltramo had led off with a double.

Aric Weinberg provided the final two runs for the Eagles, launching his third home run of the season in the 6th inning before lofting a sacrifice fly to plate Brandon Hughes in the 7th inning.

Alex Natham was the most effective of the six Concordia pitchers who took the mound, tossing a pair of scoreless innings while allowing one hit and one walk to go along with a strikeout. Theon Bourdaniotis (1-1) earned the win for the Golden Eagles, allowing one run on three hits while striking out four.

Concordia (10-11) plays each of its final 19 games against Golden State Athletic Conference foes starting Thursday, March 27 with a home contest against San Diego Christian at 2:30 p.m.
