About Me: At the age of 17, I came to the US to finish my high school education and compete in the sport of track and field. This experience was vital as I was able to obtain a scholarship and compete at the collegiate level. I had the opportunity to represent my home country of Puerto Rico in many international competitions. Through my education, I’ve had the opportunity to live in four different states (Texas, Colorado, Oregon and California). I’ve been working at Concordia University for six years, five as a coach and one as an Admissions Counselor. I believe that my life and athletic experiences give me the necessary tools to guide recruited athletes and international students through the admissions process.
How has college transformed you?
College was a great experience for me. Coming from another culture to attend college in America was a big culture shock. You are forced to mature at a fast rate since you are responsible for everything involving your life. Also, you get to meet and create friendships with people from all different cultural and socio-economic backgrounds. You get to share your culture with others and you get to learn from them. It definitely helps you open your eyes, heart and mind about the world that we live in.
What advice would you give to prospective students?
Understand what you as an individual will need to succeed and flourish academically and socially. Visit several schools so you can compare and contrast. Follow your instincts regarding where you feel is right for you. Enjoy your time, have fun and cherish your experience in college because it is truly the most memorable time in your life.
How would you describe the atmosphere of Orange County, California?
You name it and we have it here in the OC. The climate is ideal the whole year. The entertainment capital of the world is 45 minutes away. You are within a short drive to beautiful beaches, mountains, professional sports, shopping, etc. All while still keeping great cultural diversity and a suburban feel. You’ll love it here; I know I do.
