Studio Faculty - Bassoon

Biography

In addition to her position as bassoon instructor at Concordia University, Amy teaches Music History, Music Theory, Double Reed Ensemble, Music Appreciation, and bassoon lessons at the Orange County High School of the Arts (OCHSA). She is also coordinator of studio instruction and chamber music for OCHSA’s Frederick Fennell Wind Program. Amy also actively teaches reed making master classes at UCLA and holds a private studio of bassoon and saxophone students in Los Angeles and Orange Counties.

Dr. Gillick holds a bachelor’s degree in music from California State University, Long Beach and a Master’s and Doctorate from University of California, Los Angeles. She claims the proud distinction of being the first Doctor of Bassoon to graduate from UCLA.

An active orchestral performer, Amy is co-principal bassoonist in the Bakersfield Symphony and also a member of the Santa Monica Symphony. She is active with many other orchestras in the Los Angeles area, having played with the Pasadena Symphony, Long Beach Opera, and many more.

Amy Gillick has had the inspiring opportunity to perform with some of the most highly-acclaimed artists of our time, including Laurendo Almeida, Christopher Parkening, Joseph Kalichstein, Robert Levin, Anton Nel, Edo DeWaart, Stanislaw Skrowaczewski, Steven Hough, Joseph Silverstein, David Zinman, Hugh Wolff, Edgar Meyer, Joshua Bell, Richard Carpenter, Herbie Hancock, Wayne Shorter, and many others.
