Rob Grishkoff grew up in Orange County near Disneyland when there were still orange groves all around. He began playing the French Horn at South Junior High School in Anaheim. He continued to play the French Horn through high school, and attended Cal State Long Beach, Cal State Fullerton, and the University of Cape Town in South Africa as a music major. He began playing for the Cape Town Symphony Orchestra in 1976 where he played principal horn for nearly 21 years. During that time he played thousands of concerts with the orchestra and numerous chamber groups. He has recorded and toured extensively all over the world including Taiwan, Sweden, and the U.S. in Atlanta during the 1996 Olympics. He met his wife Lindy who plays viola, in Cape Town where they played together for many years in the Cape Town Symphony. In 1997, they moved back to Orange County with their two sons Jason and Nicholas. Jason graduated in June from UC San Diego with a double major in Political Science and History, while Nicholas is in his sophomore year at Cal State San Francisco studying piano, voice and composition. He continues to play French Horn as a freelance musician in such groups as the Santa Barbara Symphony, Opera Pacific, the Disneyland Holiday band, and the Hollywood Bowl Orchestra. He has taught at the elementary, middle school, and high school levels (currently at Gahr H.S.).
