Welcome from the Program Director

"I hear and I forget, I see and I remember, I do and I understand." Confucius

We invite you to come, see and experience China! This is indeed a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, as countless alumni have testified, and your life will never be the same. This is the interactional effect of the unique blend of work, study and life that the MA in International Studies Program offers. We live in an age of globalization, where we are – in our differences – interconnected and interrelated. It has been said that China is a dragon that has awakened after centuries of dormancy; it is certainly making up for lost time. Our old assumptions must be abandoned, or at least amended, and we must take up the challenges of this millennium with renewed vision, purpose and hope.

As Dean of Asia Programs, I am stationed in Shanghai with my family (since 2008). We have seen the amazing changes and transitions here firsthand – and there are no indications that this rapid pace of development will slow down anytime soon. My work (which includes developing new initiatives, projects, relationships, and programs in China for Concordia University Irvine) puts me in touch with CEO’s of multinational corporations, government officials, university presidents, as well as everyday people from all over the globe. You too will assuredly develop relationships with individuals and institutions that represent not only China, but the diverse nations of the world.

We welcome you to China and to a life-changing, transformative experience!

我们欢迎你们!

Dr. Eugene Kim
