MCAA 590 Concordia University Coaching Academy

Jon Hamro was born and raised in San Clemente, California where he graduated from San Clemente High School in 1981. While in high school, Jon played football, basketball, and baseball before moving on to play football at both Saddleback Community College and then Cal-State University, Fullerton. Jon received his B.A. in English from Cal-State Fullerton and then went on to earn an M.A. in Education at Pepperdine University. Jon began his career in Education in 1992 when he was hired as an English Teacher and Assistant Varsity Football Coach at his alma mater, San Clemente High School, after a five year stint in the private sector.

While at San Clemente H.S., Jon served as an English Teacher for a number of years, and he is currently both the Boys' and Girls' Athletic Director as well as a Secondary Teaching Assistant Principal. Jon has been an Athletic Director for fifteen (15) years; and, he has coached Football (18 years) at both the high school and community college level, track (13 years) at the high school level, and he has even coached soccer early on in his career.

In addition to the above, Jon has served in many capacities in league governance over the years and he is currently in charge of San Clemente High School's highly successful Voluntary Drug Testing Program (which he designed) and has had the good fortune of promoting through Regional Summits for the White House Office of Drug Control Policy in recent years.

Jon is about to begin his fifth year as an Adjunct Faculty Member for Concordia University, where he has taught MCAA 510 (Principles of Coaching and Leadership) a number of times as well as MCAA 590 (Coaching Academy) that runs during the Summer Session. Jon's background and experience working with coaches and educational leaders over the years have really helped prepare him to teach in the Masters Degree Program in Coaching and Athletic Administration here at Concordia University. Jon truly enjoys the experience of working with the highly-motivated students at Concordia University and he looks forward to doing it again this year!
