Global Opportunities in Mission and Service
Concordia Mission and Service opportunities engage students in global and self awareness, through partnerships around the globe. Students will learn, serve, and understand culture and life as a guest through their experience abroad to see the world and step into new experiences.
God created the world through a great story, each place and person is a part of His story. Opportunities for mission show God’s loving mercy to people around the world through sharing the gospel alongside local Christians and established churches.
The Office of Global Programs and abbeywest collaborate together to provide numerous opportunities for students seeking to go to all peoples and serve in foreign countries this year.
See below for opportunities to be a part of the story around the globe.

W. Texas and Mexico
February 24 - 28, 2014
Jesus told his disciples that the poor would always be with them, and that truth is as much of a reality today as it was 2,000 years ago. On the West Texas/Mexico border, the city of El Paso stands as a testament to this reality as the El Paso skyline of steel casts a long shadow over the shanty Mexican border town of Juarez.
In the midst of it all is Ysleta-- a ministry that was developed to reach out with God’s grace in both word and action to the largely Hispanic population living on both sides of the border. There is no shortage of opportunities to be involved in this ministry as students can engage with residents through the local food pantry or hot meal program.
Those with a passport can travel over to Juarez and help out with house building projects or get involved in the community to teach kids about Jesus with this opportunity led by Dana Burkey, Global Programs Staff. The harvest is plentiful in El Paso and Juarez. Join God’s work in Texas and Mexico, be a part of the story.

The Ghana internship will partner with City of Refuge (CORM) in Accra, who
work actively against human trafficking. Over the course of three weeks,
participants will build relationships with rescued children and local
Ghanaians. During time serving as an intern, learn the way of life in
Ghana from time on the weekends in Accra and from the local villagers
around CORM is in the countryside away from the city.
Interns will be welcomed with a CORM program orientation and be
accompanied to Ghana by a CUI faculty leader. Service alongside CORM will
be spent working on projects for the organization, tutoring the rescued
children, and learning about Ghanaian culture through traditional music,
dancing and games - all while encouraging the kids, staff, and other
interns at CORM in faith, service, and leadership.
In 1989 communism officially came to an end in Hungary bringing new freedoms and a thirst for the gospel. Beginning in 1998, Concordia responded by partnering with Lutheran schools in Hungary to share the good news of Jesus Christ with junior and senior high students through week-long English camps. Join Pastor Quinton Anderson in this fantastic opportunity to be a part of what the Holy Spirit has been doing in Hungary and watch as lives are impacted by God’s grace. In 2009 a devastating earthquake pushed the island country of Haiti onto front pages around the world. However, Haiti’s history of poverty and political instability has a much longer history making it difficult to recover and respond to the basic needs of its people.
Two years ago, CUI students traveled to Leogane, privileged to build the first grouping of transitional homes intended for families still living in tent communities. Others have continued that work (plans include 800 houses) and CUI once again is sending a team to join in.
Led by Pastor S.T. Williams, a visitor of Haiti over 100 times, and Professor Jeff Mallinson, team members will build homes, lead vacation Bible school for village children, and possibly work with local orphanages. Partnering with Haitian congregations and pastors, the team will support those still tirelessly invested daily for the sake of Christ when most of the world has moved on. Join God’s work in Haiti, be a part of the story.
Partner with the ongoing ministries in Ethiopia, Uganda and Western Kenya with students led by Dr.Timothy Preuss. Join local Christians and established churches in Ethiopia to engage in evangelism efforts. Share love with about 20 orphaned street girls at Mirember Cottage through VBS, games, and laughter. Serve on a Love Project with Fikisha Kenya mentors and street boys. Join God’s work in East Africa, be a part of the story.
Buena Vista Concordia International School (BCIS) in Shenzhen, China invites 10-12 Concordia juniors or seniors along with a faculty/staff member to teach in their English Summer Camp.
Teach in a classroom full of high-energy children in the day and engage in the culture at night over a delicious hot pot meal. Grow not only in teaching experience, but in character as you plan lessons, persevere in adapting teaching strategies, and have fun getting to know students.
Over 10 CUI alumni continued their time after the summer camp to teach for 1-2 years, so could you. Join the work in China, be a part of the story.
