Dr. Gilbert Fugitt Selected as New Dean of Students for Concordia University Irvine

Irvine, Calif. (July, 2012) – As Dean of Students, Fugitt will promote student development while carrying out the university's mission and building relationships with students, faculty and staff. He will begin his new role on July 1, 2012.

"We are pleased to welcome Dr. Fugitt into his new role as Dean of Students at Concordia University," President Kurt Krueger said. "During his years at the university, Gilbert has proven to be an excellent leader and a wise and caring advocate for students. He is truly student-centered, and I believe he will use his new role as Dean of Students to help all of our students mature academically, socially and spiritually."

Fugitt, who currently serves as Associate Dean of Students for the university, joined the Concordia community in 2007 as Service Leadership Coordinator. Within a year he was named as Director of Servant Leadership and Development and then Director of Student Leadership and Development as his role was broadened to include all student leadership initiatives. He became Associate Dean of Community Involvement and Leadership Development in 2011. In that role he has been responsible for initiatives to build campus-wide community and civic engagement. Before joining the staff at Concordia, Fugitt served as Director of Christian Education for Our Savior Lutheran Church in Arcadia, California.

Executive Vice President and Chief Enrollment Officer Dr. Gary McDaniel summed up the search committee's decision to recommend Fugitt for the Dean position: "His love for the Lord and Concordia University Irvine clearly set him apart from other candidates." McDaniel continues, "It was very evident throughout the process that Dr. Fugitt clearly understands the mission of the university and has a sincere relationship with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ which will guide him in the challenging position of Dean of Students."
