Concordia University Irvine (CUI) Professor Publishes Second Book On Managing The Millennial Workforce

IRVINE, Calif. (May 3, 2016)— Concordia University Irvine (CUI) Director of Organizational Psychology for the School of Professional Studies, Chip Espinoza, Ph.D., has co-authored Managing the Millennials: Discover the Core Competencies for Managing Today's Workforce (2nd edition).

Backed by years of research, Managing the Millennials serves as a valuable tool for millions of managers globally whose job it is to lead and motivate their millennial employees in the face of generational tensions in the workplace. Espinoza addresses the nine distinct and clashing value systems of different generations and cultures and how to overcome these differences to build valuable workplace connections.

Each chapter contains relevant interviews and case studies and offers research-backed explanations and solutions that uncover the ideas and practices to help any organization and their leaders engage with younger employees. Espinoza, for example, expands on the principle that millennials, thanks to technology, are the first generation that has not needed an authority figure to access information. For Boomers and cultures that place a strong emphasis on the higher authority value system, this phenomena often causes friction in the manager-employee relationship.

Managing the Millennials is designed to tackle the question of how to address a dynamic in the workforce that doesn’t know how to reach up to their ‘elders’ along with a generation that doesn’t know how to reach down,” said Espinoza. “Millennials, a workforce that is 78 million strong, will outnumber both Boomers and Gen Xers in the next decade. By understanding this demographic and applying the right strategies, businesses in the U.S. and worldwide can retain millennial talent and build a stronger organization.”

Espinoza is a leading expert on the subject of generational diversity and has authored numerous leadership articles and books including Millennials Who Manage, Interpersonal Boundaries in Teaching and Learning and Millennials@Work, the latter of which was recently released in Chinese and Polish.

His expertise has been featured on CNN, Fox News, national radio and major publications including Bloomberg, Fortune, Fast Company and Harvard Business Review. He was named a top 15 Global Thought Leader on the Future of Work by the Economic Times. Managing the Millennials is available for purchase at major book retailers and online.
