Feature - The Arts
The Concordia Master Chorale is a community ensemble that is dedicated to excellence in the performance of sacred choral literature. The chorus is comprised of talented vocalists from throughout Orange County. Its members include high school and church choral directors, skilled church choir singers, as well as a few Concordia faculty, staff, and alumni. The Concordia Master Chorale traditionally performs at three concert series each year. These include a Fall Festival of Hymns with a well-known composer/organist, the popular Concordia Christmas Concerts, and the Concordia MasterWorks Concerts.
Each spring the choir presents a major choral-orchestral work as part of its MasterWorks Concert series. Past MasterWorks Concerts have included performances of Bach cantatas, F.J. Haydn's Lord Nelson Mass, Honegger's King David, Handel's Messiah, Mozart's Requiem, Mozart's Grand Mass in C minor, Bach's Magnificat, Mendelssohn's Elijah, Vaughan Williams' Dona nobis pacem, Duruflé's Requiem, Bernstein's Chichester Psalms, Mendelssohn’s St. Paul, Brahms' Ein deutsches Requiem, and J.S. Bach's Mass in B Minor. This April will feature a performance of Johann Sebastian Bach’s monumental work for double choir and double orchestra -- the St. Matthew Passion.
Auditions for the Concordia Master Chorale occur each fall and spring. For more information regarding these auditions, please call the Concordia Music Office at (949) 214-3419 or email email@example.com.
The Concordia Master Chorale is seeking talented vocalists for its 2013-2014 performance season.
Exciting plans include a performance of J.S. Bach’s St. Matthew Passion in its original German. This monumental work for double chorus and two orchestras is considered one of the greatest accomplishments in all of classical music. The Master Chorale will be joined by the Concordia Choir, six professional soloists, and a professional orchestra for its performances on April 12-13, 2014.
The Concordia Master Chorale performs under the direction of Dr. Michael Busch, who is conducting his eighteenth season with the ensemble. Dr. Busch serves as Director of Choral Activities at Concordia University in Irvine, where he supervises the choral program of four choirs in addition to teaching choral methods, theory, and conducting.
