Meet the Staff
I'm Mykaela Clemmer, a senior English major with plans to teach and coach high school students. I am part of Concordia's wonderful Undergraduate Credential Program, which allows me to integrate my credential courses into my 4 year graduation plan. I deliver pizza at a local pizza place in order to pay for gas and my coffee addiction. In my free time I enjoy running, snowboarding, going to the beach, and cheering for my Southern California professional sports teams. Professors I have studied with include Borst, Schmidt, Lee and Garton. My specialties include outlining, organizing, grammar, MLA formatting, APA formatting, and thesis constructing.
Hello all! My name is Kristina Deusch, I'm an English Major, and I'm in my junior year here at Concordia University. In addition to my work at the Writing Center, I am also a Core Peer Tutor for English 202: World Literature. You also might see me around campus playing handbells because music is my hobby. Professors Lee, Vezner, Hack, Melberg, Soper, Ashmon, Van Voorhis, Cosgrove and S. Bachman are just some of the instructors that I have studied under. I like figuring out grammar, creating and changing outlines, organizing anything, and reading everything!
Hi! My name is Elizabeth Dobbin. This is my third year at Concordia, Irvine studying music performance in the areas of classical voice and viola. I love to write fiction, but I have experience in other styles of writing such as research papers and descriptive or argumentative essays. Some professors I have studied under include Professors Lee, Borst, Armstrong, and Van Voorhis. I would love to discuss your ideas and papers with you and help in your writing process in any way I can.
Hello! My name is Chase Harrington, and I am majoring in International Studies with a minor in economics. I am a very down-to-earth guy who loves spending time with friends. I compete with the CUI debate team, so if you need help with a persuasive paper or just want someone to brainstorm arguments with you, I'm your man. I also have taken several history classes, and I am comfortable with CMS style. Professors I have studied under include Armstrong, Ashmon, Van Voorhis, Garton and Brown. Outside of academics, I enjoy going to the beach as well as playing ultimate frisbee and basketball. Drop by sometime! I look forward to working on papers with you at the Writing Center.
Hey everybody, I'm Jason Holte and I'm a senior here at Concordia. I am an English major with a minor in Coaching and Athletic Administration, and after I graduate I hope to either get a job writing for ESPN or go to grad school. When I'm not on campus I like to bowl and go to country concerts. I have had classes with Professors Lee, Schmidt, Garton and Norton. I am most familiar with critical and analytical essays, as well as research papers. My strengths include thesis drafting, brainstorming and other pre-writing techniques. See you all soon!
Hello! My name is Ilona Martirosova, and I'm a junior here at Concordia. Currently, I am majoring in mathematics and am hoping to work for the National Security Agency after I graduate. I love math because it challenges me in a way most other disciplines don't. Writing also challenges me; it allows me to pour all of my thoughts out onto a piece of paper and express myself in extraordinary ways. A few of the professors I've studied with are Lee, Taylor, Schulteis, Tom, Francisco and Brown. Some of my strengths in writing include grammar, format, and organization. Please stop by the Writing Center, and I will do my best to assist you in any way I can.
Hello folks! My name is Emily Olson and I am currently a junior here at Concordia, Irvine. I am a Behavioral Science major, but I enjoy reading most anything and editing any papers my friends let me get my hands on. I have had the pleasure of studying under many excellent professors who have helped improve my writing skills including Schmidt, Norton, Borst, Armstrong, and Van Voorhis. I have had experience in writing with MLA, APA, and Chicago Manual Style. Thanks to these great professors, I have found that my strengths include thesis formation, paper organization and grammatical corrections. Outside of writing, I like to go out with friends to new restaurants that serve unique cuisines, roller skate, watch movies, and sing loudly in the car with the music pumping and the windows down. I look forward to seeing your smiling faces in the Writing Center to help you tackle all of your writing worries. See you soon!
My full name is Elizabeth Addison Rhea, but if Elizabeth is too many syllables, you can call me Ely (Ell-ee). I'm a senior this year, and if Concordia offered a major in EVERYTHING, I would be one, but since they don't, I'm a Humanities major, which is the closest thing to it. I have an arts emphasis and a creative writing minor-- as you can guess, art's a big part of my life and the way I commune with my Creator, and I've been writing as an art form since before I can remember. I have extensive experience with academic writing, as well, especially when it comes to literary, historical, and current issue assignments. I've taken courses with Drs. Tom, Ashmon, Armstrong, and Brown, among many others. Can't wait to meet you!
Hello! I'm Rebecca Rierson, a junior history student working on my secondary credential so that I can become a teacher in a couple of years. Outside of the Writing Center I also work as a Core Peer Tutor for history and as a waitress serving awesome food. When I get some free time I love hanging out with friends, finding splendid places to eat, reading, and taking too many photos! I have had the pleasure of taking classes (and writing plenty of papers) with Dr. Armstrong, Dr. Francisco, Dr. Van Voorhis and Dr. Brown. I love building a thesis, creating an organized paper, and know how to follow the "golden rod sheets" for the history department's style guide.
Hey all! My name is Johanna Saleska, and I am Concordia's Writing Center TA! I graduated from CUI last May with a degree in English and am currently in hot pursuit of a creative writing MFA. When I'm not sweating over graduate school applications, though, I'll be in the Writing Center to assist you with all your paper-writing needs. My loves include, but are not limited to, sushi, long runs, green tea, and the beach. I've studied with almost all of the English professors on campus as well as Ollry, Schultz, Ashmon, and Brighton. Strengths of mine are outlining and organization, thesis crafting, MLA format, and all things creative. I'm also killer at coming up with titles. Come work with me!
Hello there! My name is Gretchen Sheetz and I'm a music performance major. I've come to enjoy writing very much over the course of my academic studies; a good paper can require hard work and dedication, but the end result is extremely satisfying. As a junior, my class was the first at Concordia to experience the Core Curriculum; many papers are involved! I would be delighted to work with you on assignments for the Core or any other class. My goal is to aid you in not only "getting through" your homework but also helping you to appreciate the beauty and value of writing.
