Online Writing Lab (OWL)
The Concordia University Online Writing Center Staff provides Adult,
Graduate, and Online Learning students the help they need to develop their
potential as writers. Using the OWL is easy:
- Send an email message to email@example.com with the following information:
Attach the paper to the email message.
On the Subject Line of your email put the course number and assignment
(i.e. WRT 102 Career Profile).
- Your name.
- The title of the course and the instructor’s name.
- A description of the assignment and its requirements (length, format,
due date, etc.)
- A description of your concerns and the specific things you'd like the
OWL consultant to review in the paper.
A consultant in the Writing Center will read your paper and make suggestions about how to improve the work. The consultant will look at clarity of the main ideas, support and development, organization, and other major concerns first. At the level of sentences and grammar, tutors pinpoint the most important or most frequent patterns of error. If you would like help with a specific grammar problem in the paper, be sure to mention it in the email message. You can expect lots of summary and evaluative comments, particularly about specific questions or concerns you raise, but remember that we don’t proofread a paper for you. Our goal is to help you become a better writer.
For papers 10 pages or less, you will receive a response via email within
24 hours from the time it is picked up by a consultant. For papers 11-20
pages, please allow up to 48 hours. Longer projects may need to be reviewed
a section at a time. Please keep in mind that papers sent over the weekend
may not be returned until Tuesday and that we are closed for designated
holidays. Plan ahead to make full use of your Writing Center.
As you can imagine, a responsive reader is valuable to any writer, not just those having problems. Professional writers always have discerning people read their work before publication.
We hope to hear from you soon!
