Finance & Accounting

The Buck Starts Here!

Profit, cash flow, investment, measurement, control — these are essential for businesses to succeed. Concordia offers two disciplines in this crucial part of business: Finance and Accounting. These emphases will give you the skills you need to be in demand as a professional in this imperative part of corporate leadership.

Finance studies the acquisition and use of resources for both individuals and corporations. Accountants are the scorekeepers who observe, measure, and report on the economic aspects of an organization. Finance professionals act as consultants to management helping to make appropriate financial decisions and allowing corporate leadership to assess the effectiveness of the strategies. They do this all within a context of risk management. Of course, the side benefit of this emphasis is personal wealth. You will explore:

  • The time value of money — a cornerstone concept for personal wealth
  • Financial analysis — the ability to evaluate a company’s strengths and weaknesses
  • Investment strategies to manage your or your company’s portfolio
  • Real estate acquisition
  • Entrepreneurial finance for sourcing and growing new ventures
  • The entire system of financial institutions

  • Portfolio management
  • Investment banking

Sports Management

The Ball is in Your Court!

There is unprecedented interest and growth in the health, sport and leisure industries. Sports today is a $100 billion industry in the U.S. Companies in North America spend over $8.7 billion as sponsors of sporting events. Attendance at sporting events and participation in sport activity are at an all-time high. Given the economic magnitude and pervasive nature of popular sport in American society, the need has never been greater for professionally trained sport managers.

Profession preparation is also given for careers in private and public fitness and wellness programs, sports stadiums/arenas, and the sports marketing, management and communications firms that service the larger marketplace.

The Sport Management program utilizes experience-based curriculum to prepare you to be a leader in the sport industry. Our small classes offer the instruction that challenge you to apply what you have learned into actual sport settings. We combine many guest speakers from the industry with off campus tours to provide you with cutting-edge experiences. The southern California location puts you in the best environment to learn, interact and intern with professional sports, college sports, Olympic sport training, health clubs, amateur sports, sport retail markets, sport facility management, golf venues and sport agents.
