Clinical Program Requirements
Observation Period
The observation period is a time of exposure to the profession of athletic training. Students are required to complete 100 hours of observation in an athletic training clinic for the following purpose:
- To allow the potential athletic training student first hand participation and observation that will aid in discerning whether the ATEP will suit their educational and career objectives.
- To allow the athletic training staff the opportunity to evaluate the potential athletic training student first hand before admittance to the program.
Two courses have been designed to give you academic credit while you pursue the hours required in the observation period:
- ESS 238 Observational Clinical Coursework I - Fall semester
- ESS 239 Observational Clinical Coursework II - Spring semester
Students may apply to the Athletic Training Education Program during the spring semester of the Observation Period. Transfer students may apply upon completion of academic pre-requisites and 100 hours of observation under a certified athletic trainer.
Professional Phase
The professional phase functions to expose the athletic training student to a variety of clinical settings and educational experiences, and provide opportunities for the student to meet all clinical proficiencies through a progressive "learning over time" model.
