Department of English, Writing and Modern Languages
What do George Clooney, William Shakespeare, Orson Welles, Martin Luther King Jr., and Isabel Allende all have in common? They are just five of the many brilliant communicators who are encountered by students in the English, Writing and Modern Languages Department, students majoring in English and Humanities and Fine Arts or minoring in Creative Writing and Spanish. Our focus is on language, on that unique human attribute that allows us to read with insight, think with clarity, and write and speak with purpose. With these skills, Concordia graduates find satisfying jobs in such diverse fields as education, publishing, public relations, and even missionary work. If you love a good story or enjoy encountering new people and new ideas, you are the kind of student we are looking for.
Students in the English, Writing and Modern Languages Department benefit from small class sizes and from one-on-one contact with faculty who care about them as individuals. When not in the classroom, you can write for the university newspaper or edit our literary publication, The Aerie.
