Concordia Shows How Much it Cares for the Orange County Community

Irvine, Calif. (December 9, 2013)— This year, more than ever, members of the Concordia family have been getting together to help out the community. Their mission is to offer students, faculty and staff opportunities to serve the local community, through a newly developed program called Concordia Cares.

Created in July 2013, Concordia Cares is currently made up of 75 volunteers, 5 staff volunteers, and one faculty volunteer. This community of volunteers has logged over 250 volunteer hours for Fall 2013 alone.  Concordia Cares builds relationships with local Orange County organizations.

This fall they have worked with 8 different organizations.  With these organizations, they average about one project per week and three projects per organization. The organizations that Concordia Cares have served this year are:

  • O.C. Rescue Mission Village of Hope
  • Habitat for Humanity Orange County
  • Illumination Foundation
  • The Jessie Reese Foundation
  • Newport Bay Conservancy
  • O.C. Rescue Mission: Chili Van
  • Orangewood Children’s Foundation
  • Ronald McDonald House

"Our vision is to make a lasting impact on the Orange County community,” Brianna Springer, Concordia Cares program coordinator, explained. “We've had a great response from staff and students at Concordia, and hope to continue building partnerships with local organizations that will extend far into the future."

Concordia Cares believes in building sustainable programs that will make an indelible impact on the community.  They plan on continuing their service into Spring 2014.  A non-profit fair is planned on campus in January to partner with more organizations in Orange County and pair with them interested volunteers.
